5 of the Most Festive Holiday Events in the Poconos

During Christmastime, the Pocono Mountains transform into something straight out of a Hallmark movie. The region boasts small town charm, old-fashioned celebrations and bushels of hospitality. The days and weeks leading up to the holidays are chock-full of concerts, crafts, cocoa and carriage rides. We’ve compiled five of the most festive holiday events in the Poconos. Hawley Winterfest

One of the most popular holiday events in the Poconos, nearly every business rolls out the red carpet to welcome visitors with activities day and night during this weekend celebration. There are over 50 events planned over the course of three days. Highlights include a Christmas Harp contest with Erin Hill, Holiday House Tour and Beer Tour.

Here at Silver Birches, we’re hosting an Open House Holiday Party and Ugly Sweater Party complete with live music and prizes. Breakfast with Santa is always a favorite at The Waterfront. This year you can also decorate a gingerbread house. Browse the offerings at the Holiday Artisans’ Fair at the Hawley Silk Mill on Saturday and Sunday. While you’re there, visit the Sculpted Ice Bar at Cocoon Coffeehouse and Bakery and order a specialty cocktail. Glass- wine.bar.kitchen will get Winterfest Rockin’ with live music by John Curtin. Winterfest Brunch at The Settlers Inn is a festive combination of decadent holiday fare and traditional music.

Honesdale Winter Wonderland

November 27 and 28
The town that served as the inspiration for the classic Christmas Carol, “Winter Wonderland,” kicks off the holiday season with a two-day event centered around its idyllic Main Street. Many of the small businesses host open houses and special events. Plans had to be scaled back this year due to the pandemic, but many of the businesses offer specials on November 28 to coincide with Small Business Saturday. There will also be winter wagon rides, chainsaw carving and blacksmith decorations. Santa will be stationed on a caboose for socially distanced photos. The traditional star and tree lighting will take place virtually on Greater Honesdale Partnership’s Facebook page.

Victorian architecture, strolling carolers in costume, fresh garland decorations- downtown Jim Thorpe transforms into a Dickens village for the celebration. Happening over three weekends in December, festivities include train rides with Santa, specials and events at over 50 shops, galleries and boutiques, free family events and live entertainment. A Christmas Tree lighting in Josiah White Park signals the beginning of the season. Beloved annual events include a gingerbread house display, church tours, Christmas Tree contest and living nativity.

Old Time Christmas at Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm

December 5-6 and 12-13
The customs and traditions of bygone eras come to life over two weekends at this working farm in Stroudsburg. Visit with a Victorian family preparing for an 1890s holiday.
