During Christmastime, the Pocono Mountains transform into something straight out of a Hallmark movie. The region boasts small town charm, old-fashioned celebrations and bushels of hospitality. The days and weeks leading up to the holidays are chock-full of concerts, crafts, cocoa and carriage rides. We’ve compiled five of the most festive holiday events in the Poconos. Nearly every business rolls out the red carpet to welcome visitors with activities day and night during this weekend celebration. There are over 50 events planned over the course of three days. Highlights include a Christmas Harp contest with Erin Hill, Holiday House Tour and Beer Tour.

November 29-30 and December 1
The town that served as the inspiration for the classic Christmas Carol, “Winter Wonderland,” kicks off the holiday season with a two-day event centered around its idyllic Main Street. Many of the small businesses host open houses and special events. The Annual Santa Parade precedes the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Central Park, which officially ushers in the holiday season. Festivities continue on Saturday with Indoor Holiday Vendor Markets with shuttle service offered between locations.
December 6-8, 14-15 and 21-22
Victorian architecture, strolling carolers in costume, fresh garland decorations- downtown Jim Thorpe transforms into a Dickens village for the celebration. Happening over three weekends in December, festivities include train rides with Santa, specials and events at over 50 shops, galleries and boutiques, free family events and live entertainment. A Christmas Tree lighting in Josiah White Park signals the beginning of the season. Beloved annual events include a gingerbread house display, church tours, Christmas Tree contest and living nativity.
December 7-8 and 14-15
The customs and traditions of bygone eras come to life over two weekends at this working farm in Stroudsburg. Visit with a Victorian family preparing for an 1890s holiday. See the live barnyard nativity. Hear tales of 19th century farm life. Be entertained by schoolhouse carolers. Anticipate the arrival of Belschnikel, the Santa Claus of Pennsylvania German folklore.
