What You Should Know About Lake Wallenpaupack Fishing
Where to Fish
The last thing you want to do is spend all day casting your line without getting any bites, (or worse, reeling in a branch). Thankfully, the lake covers over 5,700 acres and is home to plenty of fish, so whether you’re on shore or in a boat, finding a great fishing spot is easy! The Caffery Recreation Area is one of the best fishing spots on the lake. In fact, bass fishing tournaments are regularly held there. Here in Hawley, you’ll find Mangan Cove where you can get your boat on the water for free. In fact, USA Today named Mangan Cove as one of the best places to boat Lake Wallenpaupack.
No boat? No problem, because there are plenty of great boat rentals in the area, including right here at Silver Birches Resort. If you prefer a guide, check out Ray’s Fishing Guide Service in Hawley.
Of course, you can always fish from the shore! There are 52 miles of shoreline here that offer great shallow water spots to catch bass!

What You’ll Catch
What you will catch depends on where you are on the lake. If you fish from the north end, near Hawley and Wilsonville, you can expect to reel in striped and smallmouth bass, as well as walleye. The southern end of Lake Wallenpaupack (near the Ledgedale Recreation Area) has bluegill and largemouth bass, and the central section of the lake is home to calico and perch. However, all throughout the lake, you won’t have any trouble finding smallmouth bass, striped bass, walleye, and more.
